Action and Repose

Triathlon in Marseille
A sunny morning for a triathlon

On a sunny Sunday morning I watched a triathlon happening in my neighborhood. It is great when road sections are blocked from traffic and the area becomes quiet, just for sports. Since it is mid summer, it was easy to tell from the participants that the sun added an extra strain on their efforts.

The swimming part of the triathlon was completed earlier and cycling and running continued to about Noon. Not an easy feat as the sun only got hotter. Although the late-June heatwave was over, this was still high summer temperature.

During the summer, I find the the evenings quite refreshing along the coast. Since it is cooler then, many people go out to enjoy the seaview or go for a quiet run on the boulevard. This boulevard has been redesigned into separate sections for pedestrians and cyclists, making it comfortable for both to pass this part on the coast.

The beach areas of Marseille are appreciated by many. There has been a prediction of a second heatwave coming and it is likely that more people will flock to the coast in the evenings to find relief, as I surely will.
