The day that the temperature drops 10°C, from 33 to 23 in one night, I will not forget soon. After fourteen weeks of heatwaves, such a day, the ninth of the ninth, feels like an unexpected gift from Nature. So far, the nights stay “cold”, around the 16°C, and one is turning human again. Soon we will say “it’s cold” but let’s first relish in this all forgotten freshness.

The sun rises later now but I still visit the Calanques in the early hours and with the added freshness it brings new adventures, taking me on other routes which I rarely hike. There is one that reveals the complex sculpted shape of the mountains with the decor of hardy pine trees that grow on the most challenging spots. Limestone Rock and Pine are One.

Marseille’s adorable coast goes from the Calanques all along the city. My favorite part or should I say “people’s favorite part” is the attractive Corniche boulevard that gives the best view of the sun that sets behind the Frioul islands, a limestone archipelago that includes the famous If-Island. A site for immersion in the rhythm of the sea and the lucid sky.
