Together

Ensemble. The word exists in English and in French with a different meaning, complementing each other well. Ensemble, a group of musicians, in English. Ensemble, together, in French. It’s summer, people gather in the early evenings to do things together, like singing.

The English song “Down by the river”

Vocal groups from communities of Marseille participate in this June evening program starting at 6 pm in the local park. One sits on chairs or on the inviting green lawn and feels the sun losing its intensity while emotions come to the front when the human voice sings.

Hands high – singing with freeing movements
Unfolding
The voice of many cultures unified in a French song
Display of unity

The first 3 notes coming from the violin immediately touch one’s heart. One by one, the cello, guitar, silver flute, keyboards and bass join and bring wholeness to the melody. The atmosphere is set. Suddenly. The children sing. With one voice. One experiences unity.

It is summer although not according to the calendar. That official one is one week away. As long as it remains under the 30°C things are bearable. Above that, not really. This requires replanning of daily life. Early mornings and early evenings. And in between .. stay quiet.
